About Workforce Development

In 2014, the United States Congress passed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, replacing the Workforce Investment Act. This change shifted the focus toward better-serving businesses and addressing the employment barriers faced by many potential workers. The new law emphasized increased engagement between service providers and job seekers and enhanced regional cooperation among workforce areas. This change also required a restructured board with more business representation, leading to the establishment of the Lucas County Workforce Development Board.

OhioMeansJobs Lucas County, formerly known as The Source of Northwest Ohio, opened in 2004 as a one-stop employment center. As part of a statewide branding initiative, the center was renamed and now operates within the America’s Job Center network. It continues to offer high-quality assistance to job seekers and employers while benefiting from being part of the state’s OhioMeansJobs Center system.

Without the financial support of WIOA I would not have been able to continue my education and find employment. I know this was the right thing to do because everything just fell into place.
